On 15 August 2019, a launching ceremony was held at the Auditorium, PASUM to mark the beginning of the Malaysian STEM Ambassador initiative. The Director of Holistic Student Division at the Ministry of Education, YBrs. Dr. Zaid Omar was invited to officiate the ceremony. The initiative aims to enhance STEM literacy among university students and schools in Malaysia. In the first phase of the program, 10 universities have been involved, namely UM, UTM, UUM, UMS, UPSI, USIM, UMT, UTeM, UniMAP, and UniSZA. The program's second phase involves USM, UKM, UPM, UIAM, UNIMAS, UITM, UTHM, UMK, UMP, and UPNM.
The objective of the program is to empower students holistically. To facilitate a comprehensive learning experience for students, it is essential to prioritize the development of their skills in innovation and technology, entrepreneurship, social skills, and volunteerism. Furthermore, forging strong connections between universities and the local community, particularly educational institutions, can significantly enhance engagement and interest in STEM-related fields.
To achieve these objectives, we developed the My STEM Ambassador Programme Handbook, which consists of two aspects:
i. Offering STEM subjects at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), such as STEM Appreciation (GIX1004), CITRA UM.
ii. Establishing a My STEM Ambassador Student Club at the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) level, such as the UM STEM Ambassador Club.
